Resort History

Prior to 1950, there was No Lake Cumberland as we see it today. As the Great Recession loomed, the Army Corps of Engineer surveyed a sparsely populated stretch of the river and obtained the rights to construct the Wolf Creek Dam. The gates of the new dam were closed and the river began to fill the small creeks and streams lacing the valley. Residents along the river made an exodus as the rising waters slowly created Lake Cumberland. Since that time, people have been returning to their roots and enjoying the facility as one of the "Wonders of the World". Each year, eight million vacationers visit the recreational Cumberland region.
In the half-century that followed the creation of Lake Cumberland, its 1200 miles of shoreline has grown in recreational value. Lake Cumberland Resort is a premier gated 500-acre Resort community. The Resort sits on a 1,000-acre peninsula and lies adjacent to 488-acres of the Daniel Boone National Forest.
